Vote LABOUR for continued progress and prosperity

1/22/2010

This has truly been one of the longest campaigns in our history and the beauty of it all is that the voter was not short of information on the issues. Each voter who took the time to listen received information, one way or the other, on the issues including the national debt, crime, community empowerment, investments and industry.

Can you believe that after months of campaigning the moment is here?

Along the way, the process was delayed for numerous reasons. Along the way, the court was used to recreate the rules of engagement so that those whom the constitution of the land gave powers to lead the country were held up by men who sought to break the law by having dual citizenship.

During that period there was a long song and dance about the national debt, crime, sugar industry closure, land prices, cost of living, youth empowerment and the overall economic growth of the country. Many sought to raise unnecessary fears in the minds of the people, seeking to embellish flaws within statistics to call down what can only be described as progress.

Through it all the people have realised that there is only one party that understands their needs and share their vision for continued progress. They have realised that only Labour works for the continued development of the nation.

For months it seemed, to many, that Labour was too quiet on the issues and allowing the peddlers of propaganda to paint our decisions and actions as unfocussed and off course.

Then Labour began to illuminate the records and realities of the nation and somehow the unenlightened have gone quiet and the perplexed became aware.

In this campaign Labour has outlined its performance in reducing the national debt through fiscal prudence and growth in the productive sectors of the economy. It is because of this many companies have been experiencing growth and record profits while the world grapples with an economic downturn.

The campaign outlined that the closure of the sugar economy was a blessing for the nation. It revealed that as a result of skilful management of the economy there were no major setbacks in the economy with the laying off of nearly 1000 workers in an industry that was the main stay for centuries.

Labour proved that crime was indeed a challenge but daily its leadership was equal to the task of tackling the scourge and preserving the peace of the nation. The party in government continued to channel the right resources to the people to bring about focused community empowerment.

Then there was the debate on land prices. Labour articulated its vision of land ownership for all. Lots were allocated to ensure that each national was able to afford the land while accounting for cost providing the necessary infrastructure. Labour has made provision for the cost of roads, water, electricity and cable services in the new developments.

The nation was enlightened to the measures taken by the government to control the cost of living so that by economic data St. Kitts-Nevis has recorded among the lowest rates of inflation in the OECS. This is as a result of government’s subsidies in the price of cooking gas, the removal of duties on key items, and the control of food prices by consumer affairs officers; also the abolition of the fuel surcharge on electricity.

Labour then proved that it is the only party that promotes the welfare of youth and their overall empowerment. Labour has shown that youth empowerment is what it does best. Through home ownership, entrepreneurship, skills training and access to professional training and certification, the youth of this nation has no better ally than Labour.

The party is able to point to real economic data that point to the focused and on course record of Labour. There is none who can refute that we have become the leader in the OECS in the exports of light electronic parts to the United States. We remain second in the OECS and Barbados on the UN Human Development Index. St. Kitts and Nevis has reduced poverty, raised the literacy level and ranked highly on the 2009 Freedom of the Press Survey Ranking.

In these and all other areas, Labour has delivered. That is why the poll after poll reflects the overwhelming support of the initiatives of Labour and the benefits derived by all the people. It is for that reason the nation began to say It’s Working in one accord.

When more than 500,000 cruise visitors and increased international flights come into the nation, we know that tourism is working under Labour. When more than 5,000 acres of land is given to farmers and the food production has doubled between 2004 and the present, agriculture is working in the nation.

When all health centres have been refurbished and J N France General and Pogson Medical Centre have been equipped to better serve the people, we know that health care is working under Labour.

Every sector is working. Everybody knows that Labour has been working in the interest of the people and has delivered.

For these reasons and more everybody and his neighbour will vote for Labour on the 25th of January. They understand that the future will only be brighter when visionary and competent hands of a caring Labour team, led by our revered and charismatic Prime Minister, Dr. the Hon. Denzil Douglas, is at the helm.

So PAM will experience the thrashing of its life. Labour will have a fourth consecutive victory to continue our development in education, sport, culture, industry, trade, and all other spheres.

So vote Labour on Election Day 2010. Vote for all eight candidates who stand for continued transformation of this nation. Your vote will be a down payment on greater progress in this country.

A vote for PAM will be a retrogressive step and a return to rampant victimisation as indicated by the PAM candidate for East Basseterre, Glenroy Blanchette. who revealed the nefarious plans to fire the Governor General Sir Cuthbert Sebastian with immediate effect.

Vote for your future and your children’s future. Vote against the lying spirit that seeks to taint the progress you have experienced.

Vote Labour on January 25th 2010 for Progress.
