The Unholy Trinity needs to Simmer Down
2/19/2010
In Bible days, the Sanhedrin and Pharisees joined up with secular Rome to keep control over the Jewish people. That unholy alliance sought to persecute people for fear that from among the house of David will come justice, peace and restoration of righteousness and put an end to their desire for ultimate power. It is interesting to note that men of the cloth in that day even had the gall to question if it were lawful to pay taxes.
In St. Kitts and Nevis in 2010, while the people are seeking normalcy after what was by far the longest and perhaps the most divisive electoral season, there is an equally unholy alliance of three which includes men of the cloth who seek to frustrate the wishes of the common man and woman in this nation.
Today, the leaderships of the Evangelical Association and Christian Council are pleased to have succored the Chamber of Industry and Commerce in an attempt to keep fanning a political flame of division and acrimony where there should now be unity of purpose around a national common destiny.
It is ludicrous to think that a Bounced Check Bishop would want to come out and challenge the government just because he was asked to cover a debt he would have caused upon the Evangelical Association when he fraudulently presented a cheque to the government’s Custom and Excise Department with Not Sufficient Funds on the account.
One is left to wonder how is it that the Evangelical Association does not have enough funds to cover what would be a small payment of $1,463.09? And further why is it that after writing a post dated cheque on the 16th December, dated 28th December that it was allowed to come to a head on 2nd February?
Logic brings one to believe that the Bounced Check Bishop would have been happy to not pay the taxes in the name religious freedom with the hope that after January 25 his party of choice would have risen to power to absolve him of the outstanding payments to the treasury.
The Bishop failed to recognize the fact that “though the wrong seems oft so strong, God is the ruler yet.” It is incumbent on him and each national to realise that the government is God’s appointed instrument just like his church and when God speaks through his people, the personal assertions of others like the bishop and his cohorts smack of sacrilege.
It is sad when the present day unholy trinity, under the guise of a Non-Governmental Organisation Coalition, would seek to give credence to the wrong of one of its members for the sake of political opposition and strife. The churches represented have not publicly told the disgraced bishop who constantly seek to quote, and often misquote, the Bible that the scripture says that “a soft word turneth away wrath.”
Added to this, the Unholy Trinity is happy to present its Election Day Observer report with uncorroborated statements and misleading accusations to seek to tarnish the reputation of the leader of the Labour Party and give mileage to the PAM in the court.
Without giving a direct quote or naming the officer who was being addressed, the report spoke maliciously and falsely about Dr. Douglas “berating” a defence force soldier, allegedly for not performing roles not assigned to him on that day.
When the church stoops to “bear false witness” for the sake of its secular partners and their political interests, there becomes reason to wonder who the real strangers to the truth are.
They sat silently when a number of PAM candidates were nominated and swore unlawfully that they had “no adherence, allegiance or obedience to a foreign power.”
The Unholy Trinity chose not to pay attention to the KFC workers voting in Number 4 nor did they see a Morton son voting there also.
In the film The Great Debaters, Negro college professor and poet Melvin Tolson made his team repeat the mantra that the opposition does not exist because “he is merely a dissenting voice of the truth I speak.”
Today the unholy alliance does not have truth on their side. They lead an attack against Labour and the vast majority of the people of the country thinking that the government will roll over and play dead while their supporters take to the airwaves and all of the media to spread the propaganda of unwanted change.
It is for these reasons, the press conferences of Prime Minister Douglas on Wednesday and the Customs and Excise Department and the Ministry of Finance on Tuesday were welcomed airing of the facts that the nation needed to set the record straight.
The fight being waged by the unholy trinity is not needed. It is time for the bishop and his beloved bunch of bellyachers to simmer down and realise that this country needs the cooperative spirit of all her citizens. The country has already endorsed the vision of Labour, and it is time to work and to build.
The money owed is now in the treasury, much to the chagrin of the offender. For Labour and the government, the work ahead of us is our only focus.
