Monday is Polling Day: Labour poised for another decisive landslide victory
1/22/2010
Voters here in St. Kitts and Nevis will go to the polls on Monday of next week, January 25th, 2010, to elect a new government to govern the affairs of country for the next five (5) years.
Results of all the surveys and polls conducted so far on behalf of the two major political parties on St. Kitts – the ruling St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party and the opposition People’s Action Movement (PAM) – have all revealed and confirmed that the Labour Party is well poised to win the upcoming elections by another landslide victory and for the second time has a good chance of capturing all eight (8) seats on the island.
Prime Minister and Labour Party Leader, Dr. the Hon. Denzil Douglas, at a massive public meeting held on Wednesday night, January 20, at the St. Peter’s Playing Field, was very optimistic and confident that his party would win the elections by an overwhelming majority and will be given a commanding mandate by the people of the Federation to govern the affairs of the country for an unprecedented fourth (4th) consecutive term.
According to a statement made on the National Radio and Television Station earlier this week, a total of 32,800 persons in both islands have been registered to cast their votes in the elections to full the eleven (11) seats of the National Assembly made vacant, following the dissolution of Parliament by Prime Minister Douglas on December 15th last.
The Polls in both islands will be opened to the public at 7:00am on Monday and will close at 6:00pm. The official counting of ballots is expected to commence about two hours after the Polls close.
The Labour Party will wind up its campaign with an Island Wide Motorcade on Saturday, January 22nd followed by another Super Rally at the Football Stadium in Warner Park, beginning at 8:00pm – featuring international superstars Morgan Heritage and Tarrus Riley (“She’s Royal”) out of Jamaica and several local stars including four-beat Calypso King, Konris Maynard and Road March contenders, the Nu Vybes Band (“Rock it up”).
