2012 LABOUR Day March a huge success

Workers assured of Government’s continued commitment to move St. Kitts and Nevis forward.

The traditional LABOUR DAY March, which was held here on Monday of this week, May 7th, under the umbrella of the St. Kitts-Nevis Trades & Labour Union and its sister organisation, the ruling St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party was a huge success, despite all the efforts by the opposition People’s Action Movement (PAM) and their political allies in the ‘Rescue Crew’, to undermine the march and make it a “no show” event.

In spite of the overtime work put in by PAM and their cronies and all the negative publicity aired on the local radio talk shows daily and other media outlets (including the internet) to discourage people (especially Labour supporters) from participating in the march, thousands braved the inclement weather, to show solidarity with the workers of this country and rally behind their Labour Leaders in the Union and the Party.

The massive turn out of workers, Labour supporters, family members, friends and well-wishers took to the streets of Basseterre, in response to the call by the Prime Minister and Labour Party Leader, the Rt. Hon. Denzil Douglas, to march with dignity in celebration of the 80th Anniversary this year, of the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (formerly the Workers’ League), which has worked hand in hand with the Union to bring them phenomenal benefits and has dramatically improved the working and living conditions of all categories of workers in the Federation over the past eight (8) decades.

As the massive, colourful and enthusiastic throng of marchers - led by the Prime Minister, his Cabinet Colleagues and Union Leaders - wended their way confidently from and back to the Patsy Allers Playing Field on Wigley Avenue, West Basseterre, thousands more (Labour supporters) lined the route in solidarity with the workers and their Labour Leaders.

The streets of Basseterre were littered with ‘RED’ and the message was crystal clear, that LABOUR is alive and well and stronger than ever after 80 years of dedicated and exemplary service to the people of this country - An unstoppable Force!

Only a Labour Government, under the strong, astute and visionary leadership of our beloved and charismatic Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil Llewellyn Douglas, can successfully take this country forward to greater heights in these challenging and difficult times.
