LONDON – A typically resolute, unbeaten 87 from Shivnarine Chanderpaul propped up West Indies’ batting in the first Test against England on Thursday.
The veteran left-hander again gave cogent proof of his status as the World No.1 Test batsman, anchoring the Windies to 243 for nine in their first innings at the close on the opening day at Lord’s.
Opener Adrian Barath supported with 42, Marlon Samuels made 31, and Darren Bravo scored 29, as lanky England fast bowler Stuart Broad captured six wickets for 72 runs from 24.4 overs, undermining the visitors after they were put in.
Barath spoke with the media today following the day’s play.
